“Child Prophy” is the term for a dental hygiene procedure performed on patients 14 years of age or younger. This includes the inspection and maintenance of dental health in children’s primary teeth, as well as incoming permanent teeth. The timeframe in which a child has both primary and permanent teeth is known as the Mixed Dentition stage. Typically, a Child Prophylaxis is a simpler process than an Adult Prophylaxis in that there is less subgingival tartar and calculus build up to manage.
